I first met Andreas when we were collaborating on Bleeding Through. Realizing he was a brilliant interface designer, I also asked him to collaborate on our Einstein Project. Although he is credited only with interface design, he also made substantial contributions to the basic historical research and to the overall conception. I wasn’t the only one who recognized his amazing qualities. He also collaborated with Lev Manovich on Soft Cinema and with Norman Klein on other projects. He later received his Ph.D. and joined the faculty of USC’s IMAP, a doctoral program in Interdivisional Media Arts Practice. He is currently completing a book titled Digital Auras: Towards a Poetics of the Database, which will greatly enrich and transform our understanding of database and its importance to our field.
