As my USC colleague from the Spanish Department, Julian has been very willing to collaborate on all events related to Spanish cinema. He helped me convince the American Cinematheque to include a tribute to the great filmmaker, José Luis Borau (who passed away in 2012), in their 2014 series on Recent Spanish Cinema. He also was a panelist in the forum that followed the screenings at USC and contributed a marvelous essay on Mi querida señorita to our special volume on Borau. He also included my essay, “The Road and the Room: Narrative Drive in the Films of Luis Buñuel,” in the 2013 volume that he co-edited with Rob Stone, titled A Companion to Luis Buñuel.
